Are you going to GenCon this year?

A lot of my friends, the ones I’ve gamed with for the last three years at GenCon, are not going this year. This got me wondering how many others are going or not going. My family and I are still going, that’s for sure. We always have a great time. If you haven’t seen it, you can check out my videos here, here, and here on the GenCon Experience. So my question to you today is, are you going to GenCon this year? Why or why not? For those who are going, is this your first time going to GenCon? If you’re not going, have you been before?

I’m going, since it is very near to me (about 35 minutes away), but I think I will be going for different reasons this year.

When I first started going, I was a consumer whore and spent most of my time in the exhibit hall and did all the demos in the WotC area to get a chance to roll the die for free swag.

Then I started wanted to hit the seminars and RPGA events until last year when I pretty much just did RPGA (every module & the tournament).

Now after trying out D&D 4e and not really liking it, I don’t know what I am going to do. I want to do some Pathfinder Society, but would like some of my gaming group to join (but they won’t). I think I’ll do some event coverage for my blog and perhaps cover some seminars. What I’ll be doing this year is pretty open.

I’m not going because it’s not within a distance that I’m able to go right now.

I definitely think we should try to have some sort of RPGBloggers get-together at one point. :)

Absolutely I’m going. I’m also pushing for an expanded RPG Bloggers seminar/meetup this year. I also want to run a few demos, participate in (maybe organize) a few seminars (including some Old School goodness, I hope), hit up some Pathfinder Society sessions, and generally see all my pals and aquaintances. This should be a phenomenal year–I plan on liveblogging again, complete with pics and up-to-date news as it happens.

I’m definitely going, but I have the unfair advantage of living in Indy.

Hopefully the economy won’t hurt attendance and vendor participation too much.

I’d like to go, but not sure if the budget will allow for it this year. I’ve been to GenCon twice, and I love the experience. I usually split my time between seminars and the vendor floor.

I’m trying to convince my wife (since she’s a new role-player) to go, so we’ll see how that goes, lol.

I’m not going; I’ve been several times before, but this year I’m heading to Origins instead. Nothing against GenCon — it’s a great show — it’s just that this year I decided to try something different.

Not going. Never been. Would like to go just once to see if I like it. I’ve been to Origins a looong time ago and that was fun.
