Does this fill you with nerd rage?

There are new commercials on the air for Old Spice Swagger. This one features Brian Urlacher, middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears.

Personally, I think the commercial is absolutely hilarious. But one thing I’ve noticed over the years is that a lot of us geeks aren’t very willing to laugh at themselves. I’ve no doubt that a few folks out there have seen this commercial and think it’s “demeaning” to RPG or LARP enthusiasts and that it infers that it’s a bad thing to be a gamer.

What do you think; hilarious commercial or impuning slander?

That’s a *great* commercial. I love it. Any nerd that takes offense to something like that needs to turn in their membership card.

Nothing wrong with that– it’s damn funny!

Yeah, people need to shove their sensitivities up their arse. Besides, it shows nerds can transcend!

I thought it was hysterical. The thought of Brian Urlacher being one of us just makes me giddy like a 12 year old school girl.

Of course, I’d be afraid to TPK any party of PCs that had him as a member ;)

I thought it was pretty funny. Just to show how much of a geek I am, I honestly have no idea who Brian Urlacher is.

I’ll be the dissenting voice. While not offended as a gamer, I’m offended as a consumer. Commercials are just getting less and less subtle.

I was a nerd. Then I bought product X. Now I’m a big hulk.

That’s always been the message, but this commercial is just so blatant. The same is true with the Axe body spray.

I was a normal guy. Then I sprayed this noxious crap on myself. Now I get lots of sex.

*Sigh* Where is the romance and the intrigue? Why not just show hardcore porn with a few still frames of the product thrown in every few seconds?

I agree with Micah. The commercial didn’t offend my gaming sensibilities, but it did offend my intellect.

That commercial is 6 gallons of win in a five gallon bucket.
