My latest filk is based upon the classic song, Stuck in the Middle with You, by Stealers Wheel. Stuck in the Dark with a Grue is an ode to the classic text adventure game, Zork.

Note: I’m not singing on this one (I may later but not right now) so I’m posting the original song in video form below.

Stuck in the Dark with a Grue

Well I’m seein’ a house that is white

Somethin’ bout this don’t feel quite right

I’m so scared I can’t get through the front door

Cause it looks like it’s been covered with boards

I opened the trapdoor,

Can’t find the damn lamp, here I am,

Stuck in the dark with a grue.

Yes I’m stuck in the dark with a grue

And I’m wondering what it is I can do

It’s so hard to find my way through this maze

I feel like I’ve been wanderin’ for days

I opened the trapdoor,

Well I started out with nothing,

Till I opened up the damn mailbox.

I saw the leaflet and I grabbed it,

Read it to myself and said

Hee… Hee… Hee…

Finally killed the thief with the knife

Guess something’s going right in my life

Now let’s go take out the troll with this sword

I better get some kind of reward
